Themes
The biggest part of JCORE® has always been the theme. There have been 3 major versions so far. They have all had a slightly different focus.
JCORE 1
This was a block theme built on the Advanced Custom Fields plugin and Timber. It used repeater fields and custom blocks to build content.
JCORE 2
This version was based on Gutenberg as the content editor, but still used custom blocks, mostly built on ACF, but some native as well. It used Timber templates for scaffolding.
JCORE 3
This is the current version. It uses a modular design, with Composer modules and plugins, and a more minimal theme. The first iteration of JCORE 3 still used Timber templates for scaffolding, but the current one uses "Full Site Editing" with Gutenberg templates.
Branch naming
The "versions" of JCORE® have always used branch naming, but the older ones had very random names. During the midpoint of JCORE 2, we moved to an alphabetical naming scheme and used cocktails as the theme.
The first JCORE 3 theme used a parallel G-based name because of a possible parallel development, but there has been no new JCORE 2 version after grasshopper.
